About Me

Laid back; chilled out.

I’m no movie buff, but I appreciate a good movie. Like most males, I suspect, I like watching high-speed chases, things blowing up and the occasional, but usually fleeting, ‘skin.’

Sometimes I watch movies for all the wrong reasons. Like, I watched The Dukes of Hazzard just to see Jessica Simpson in all her long-legged, blond-haired glory. I’ll also admit to watching The Rundown just to peep out Rosario Dawson. Bad Company found its way into my DVD player thanks to Kerry Washington, [wsup D] and Deliver Us From Eva was watched over & over by yours truly, thanks to the very lovely Gabrielle Union. *Drool..*

Don’t get me wrong – beautiful women aren’t the sole incentive for watching movies. Hardly. I appreciate movies with a good plot, good acting, good sound & visual effects…. in short, a movie that’s convincing enough. Most importantly, it has to be unpredictable. I’d much rather watch a movie that leaves me hanging or ends up with the bad guy winning, just to keep me thinking about it a while longer. I thrive on the unpredictable, what can I say.

I still remember the day I learned that WWF wrestling was all an act – I was crushed. I loved that show back in the day when it came on KBC & I felt like a dummy for having been so emotionally entangled in it. Then, movie tapes started coming out with the Director’s Cut/The Making of those movies that further enhanced the realization that it was all fake, all of it. That pretty much did it for me; since then I’ve always watched movies with undisguised skepticism, looking for the faults in them.

There was one genre of movies that I never lost faith in though – comedy. I love funny movies. And not just the funny ones, but the stupid-funny ones too. Now, I know lots of people don’t like stupid movies and I don’t blame them coz really, all you get from them movies is mindless mirth, but I’ll settle for just that. These days I seldom get those moments when I laugh so hard that tears start streaming. Back in the day, especially in high school, that was like an everyday occurrence. People around me seem to be getting stiffer by the day. I know life sometimes sucks; there are a lot of really serious issues going on that warrant our attention and support, I know. But at the same time, life is too damn short and too damn interesting to be too serious all the time.

So when I’m solo or want to be solo I rent my funny/stupid funny movies and laugh, and suddenly the world seems a whole lot brighter. Hmmm, let me think of and list for y’all some of my top funny movies, in no particular order. The quotes that stood out for me in those movies are in parentheses.

- Napoleon Dynamite [“Freaking Idiot!”]
- Super Troopers [“Miaow!”]
- Big Daddy [“In my restaurant never order BLT.”]
- Me, Myself & Irene [“Ever notice your kids have a year-round tan?”]
- Scary Movie, all 3 [“The hood always got your back!”]
- Not Another Teen Movie [“Do you think I sleep with every guy who writes me a letter? No! I give them hand jobs.”]
- Malibu’s Most Wanted [“Don’t be hatin’!”]
- Austin Powers, all [“Do you know of my father’s where. About. S?”]
- Bedazzled [“Just think of me as a computer virus.”]
- Bad Santa ["F*ck me Santa! F*ck me Santa!”]
- The Waterboy [“Let's kick some names and take some ass!”]
- There’s Something About Mary [“Who needs him? I've got a vibrator!”]
- Coming To America [“We got an insect problem, but you boys from Africa are used to that.”]
- Bad Boys II [“My ass still hurts from what you did to it.”]
- The Mask ["Most of the men in this town think monogamy is some kind of wood."]
- Meet The Parents, both of them [“Trust me, Greg, when you start having little Fockers running around, you'll feel the need for this type of security!”]
- Next Friday [“You got knocked the f*ck out!”]

The list is endless, needless to say. Feel free to contribute, or recommend, some of your funny ones. Yours truly needs all the laughter he can get. And so do you.

**Scary Movie 4 comes out this coming weekend. Can hardly wait!**

Just checking >d - I know what you mean about movies - I love me a James Bond, not for the storyline, but the gadgets and SFX, dude any day... And any other High adrenalin movie is my cuppa tea - toss them girlie movies to the bin why dont you! And like you i love a movie that leaves me thinking What was that? not one that you already know what is coming in the next four scenes before the writer did, punks.

And stupid funny movies are so fun - Meet the fockers/parents/ Birdcage was a classic.. er.. I cant think of any now, but you remember lines from movies. Ouch, I cant think of one.

Hope you are not pretending to work like me - and your week is certainly going smoothly.

By the way, have you watched any Ice Age - I havent but so feel like doing that right now, so I can laugh so hard and forget about stuff...
I love animated movies too btw

Hey >d®,
First off, I cant believe you put Coming to America in the same class/genre as Scary Movie... lol.. thats just crazy.... and not allowed......
Coming to America is a classic....

Prince Akeem: It is my twenty-first birthday. Do you think perhaps just once I might use the bathroom by myself?

Oha: Most amusing, sir. Wipers!

Wsup G. Unfortunately this is one of the weeks that I actually work, but I like it that way coz the days blow by. It's bad enough coming to work already so it really sucks when they day just drags along!

Yo, I love animated movies! I've watched the 1st Ice Age & want to watch the 2nd but haven't had a chance to yet. I like cartoons period, my faves being Looney Tunes. Too bad they stopped making them, coz they are hilarious. I have a ton of Looney Tunes episodes on DVD, actually.

Good to know you a little better G.!

>Buff: "My son works?!"
Yeah, I never tire of that movie. Like when the Rev. is saying something like:
"...from the What's Going Down episode of That's My Mama... " that just about kills me.

Airplane? Never did watch it but you know I will, with it coming so highly recommended from so reliable a source! :)

[Oh, turban now! Do you see any fucking turban here? Do I talk like a turban guy? Do I say 'Hey Jay, you want a slurpee? You wanna slurpee?' Fuck you, okay? I was born in Brooklyn, Brooklyn, okay? My accent is a fucking Brooklyn accent, okay? Okay? ]

Speakin of animated movies, "Team America: World Police" Took me a min to watch this, but once i did, I was mad I waited so long. "Darkah Darkah Mohammed Jihad" "it's not about suckin my dick, it's about the principle, it's about trust"... (wat principle??? lmao) Whole 9 yards always gets me to laugh too...Shaft, Kings of comedy, no doubt. "Who the F is him? Him downstairs" "Didn't I tell ur boy he couldn't have no milk n cookies?" N the list is long on this one.

Well, break time, cuz u know when we break, we break!!!! (Bernie Mac)

I could quote 40 Year Old Virgin for days... The Indian guy always saying go F*ck a Goat.. What was with that?? LMAO. I'm a sucker for stupid funny movies. I recently re-watched Kung Pao, a spoof of Chinese movies, with the Evil Bad guy who changes his name to Betty. If you haven't watched this please make a point of doing so. Half Baked, "What part of Jamaica are you from?" to which Dave Chapelle's character replies.. "Right by the Beach" Austin Powers, It's a Hard Knock Life the Dr. Evil remix...I will have to return with my list of must watch Comedies. This topic is vast and deserves my undivided attention. LOL!

And don't even get on the Austin Powers tip, talking about Do we shag now or shag later? Too funny!

>Buff: Ha ha, Harold & Kumar is off the chain! I'm sure CK would concur here. Funny what the munchies can make one do, huh?! And count me in on the White Castle excursion!

Date Movie - how could I have forgotten about that one?
How about David Spade in Joe Dirt? Or in Dickie Roberts? ["This is nucking futs!"]
Van Wilder - check. This same dude in 'Waiting' is hilarious too. That movie will forever change your eating out experience!

Guess Kerry doesn't hold a flicker to GU then huh????

|d®| said...

>D: I'd like to think of it as - as typically male an example as this might be - having to choose between a Benz or a Beamer. A Mustang or a Corvette. An STi or an Evo. Boxers or briefs.

Very different, yet each will meet the need.

Anonymous said...

Boxers n briefs shouldn't be put in such a context of comparison cuz that's not even an option.....Boxers alllllll the way!!!!!

|d®| said...

True, boxers rule. I can't b-ball or jog too well with them on tho so I have to switch, as ..er... confining as their alternatives might be.

ditto acolyte concerning sitcoms. currently loving 'Everybody Hates Chris'.
